La Maison Française is honored to host a screening of “Inside Gaza” by Hélène Lam Trong.
This compelling film follows the experiences of AFP’s permanent reporting team in Gaza, whose members have watched, filmed, photographed and testified to the conflict from the inside, all while struggling to ensure their own survival. It will be followed by a discussion with Director Lam Trong and producer Yann Olivier (Head of Documentary at AFP DOCS), moderated by Clayton Weimers (Executive Director of RSF USA), as well as a Q&A session.
Inside Gaza (72 minutes), offers a rare and unique insider’s view on the challenges of reporting from Gaza. Since 7 October 2023, when the territory became largely off‑limits to the media, Agence France‑Presse journalists permanently on the ground were among the few independent witnesses to Israel’s response to the Hamas attack. Inside Gaza captures not only what happened, but also the personal struggles of journalists risking their lives to inform the world and confront the ethical, physical and emotional toll of covering a conflict few others could see. A compelling, first-hand account of the fight to keep journalism alive in the face of siege and silence. In a unique storytelling approach, Director Hélène Lam Trong collaborates directly with the protagonists – the journalists who recorded the footage in Gaza. The documentary blends this primary footage of the conflict zone with additional material, recorded since the journalists’ evacuation, as they seek to rebuild their lives in the UK, Egypt, France, and Belgium.
