July 4th Weekend Embassy Events in Washington, D.C. (2026)

Rooftop fireworks, Bastille Day galas, and open-house evenings — how Washington's diplomatic community marks the Fourth of July weekend in 2026.

Stamps DC · Updated June 30, 2026

Washington's foreign embassies turn the Fourth of July weekend into something genuinely international. While the National Mall fills up for the fireworks, the diplomatic neighborhoods offer a quieter, more global way to spend the holiday weekend — rooftop parties along Embassy Row, Bastille Day galas, and open-house evenings where admission is often free.

Here's what's worth your time around July 4th, 2026, drawn from the events we track at embassies and cultural institutes across the city. Most require an RSVP and a few sell tickets, so we've linked each one to its details. Dates and times below reflect what we have on file at Stamps DC; always confirm with the host before you go.

The Fourth itself, with an international view

If the Mall crowds aren't your scene, the embassy districts give you a different vantage. The standout is the July 4th Fireworks at the Embassy Row Rooftop, an International Club of DC soirée atop The Ven at Embassy Row in Dupont Circle — open bar, dinner, a live band, and skyline views of the fireworks (21+, ticketed).

Two large public draws anchor the Mall itself as part of the country's 250th-anniversary programming: the Great American State Fair (June 25–July 10, open late on the Fourth) and the free FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Zone, which screens Round-of-16 matches on jumbotrons. If it's the soccer you're after, the French embassy also hosts its own World Cup match screening the week before.

Bastille Day and the French calendar

France keeps the celebrations going well past the Fourth. The Bastille Day Charity Gala 2026 on July 10 marks 250 years of French-American friendship with French and American menus, wine, and live music from the Hot Club of Baltimore.

July 14 itself brings two: the Alliance Française de Washington's French village market and karaoke night, and the Embassy of France's own free Bastille Day garden celebration with live music and wine. The French-American Chamber of Commerce then closes the run with a Garden Party at the Embassy of France on July 17 — a French buffet and open bar in the embassy's gardens.

Exhibitions worth a daytime visit

For something quieter over the long weekend, two shows stand out. Shigeru Ban: Shaping Sanctuaries at the Japan Information & Culture Center traces the Pritzker laureate's humanitarian architecture — the paper-tube structures he designed for disaster relief (free, weekdays, through July 17).

At The Phillips Collection, Miró and the United States closes July 5, with 75 works tracing the Catalan painter's exchanges with American artists like Calder and Pollock. Nearby, the Smithsonian's Folklife Marketplace gathers makers from across the U.S. and the world at the Arts and Industries Building.

Embassy evenings and walking tours

A handful of hosted evenings let you step inside the missions themselves. The Evening at the Embassy of Botswana on July 9 pairs Botswanan cuisine and traditional dance with a diplomatic welcome, and the Caribbean Evening at the Embassy of Belize on July 16 brings food, rum, and music with a greeting from the Ambassador.

If you'd rather wander, the International Chocolate Tour of Embassy Row on July 12 is a guided walk down Massachusetts Avenue's diplomatic mile with tastings from a rotation of countries.

More embassy events this July on Stamps DC

Beyond the holiday weekend, the city's cultural calendar stays busy. A few more we're tracking: Korean Women in Jazz (July 5), Young Pianists Scholarship Recital at the French embassy (July 9), a Japanese Furoshiki wrapping workshop (July 10), the German cultural center's KINO! Film Salon (July 11), and Embodied Art, a dancer-in-conversation evening (July 15).
