Screening of the Documentary "Ulama: The Game of Life and Death" at Dupont Underground

About

The Mexican Cultural Institute, in collaboration with Dupont Underground, presents a special screening of the award-winning 1986 documentary "Ulama: The Game of Life and Death." This film delves into one of Mexico’s oldest living traditions: the ancient Mesoamerican ballgame.

Following the screening, engage in a live Q&A session with the film's Director, Roberto Rochín, a recognized expert on the history and traditions of the Mesoamerican ballgame. The documentary offers a unique perspective on the origins of ball games in the Americas and their cultural significance in pre-Hispanic societies, showcasing modern practitioners dedicated to preserving ulama, a direct descendant of the sacred ballgame played by ancient civilizations across Mexico.

The film is in Spanish with English subtitles. The event takes place at Dupont Underground, 19 Dupont Circle NW, Washington, DC.
