About This Event

Discover the meditative art of shodo, the traditional Japanese practice of calligraphy, in this hands-on workshop led by a master calligrapher. This beginner-friendly session offers an introduction to the fundamental techniques and cultural significance of Japanese brushwork. The Japan Information and Culture Center provides all necessary materials, so participants need only bring their curiosity and willingness to learn. Shodo is more than just writing—it's considered a form of artistic expression that embodies balance, harmony, and mindfulness. The free workshop takes place at the Japan Information and Culture Center on 18th Street NW from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, offering a perfect evening introduction to this centuries-old art form.
