Terms of Service

Effective: September 2, 2026

1. Who we are, and who we are not

Stamps DC is an independent guide to public events hosted by foreign embassies and cultural institutions in Washington, D.C. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any embassy, government, or international organization. Embassy names, flags, and event details appear here to identify the events themselves, the way a newspaper listing would.

2. The service

We aggregate event information from official and public sources and update it daily. Events change: hosts cancel, move, and reschedule, sometimes without announcing it. Always confirm details with the host before traveling, especially for events that require RSVPs or tickets. We do not sell tickets, run the events, or control admission. Links to ticketing, RSVP, and host websites take you to services with their own terms.

The events listed here are organized and operated by third parties. Your attendance at any event is between you and its host.

3. Accounts

You need an account to keep a permanent stamp collection and to publish field notes. You must be at least 13 years old, provide accurate information, and keep your credentials to yourself. You are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms.

4. Your field notes

Field notes are reviews written by people who collected an event's stamp. When you file one, the following applies:

  • You own your words. You grant Stamps DC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, excerpt, and promote your note in connection with the service, including in search results and structured data. The license ends for the public display of a note when you remove it, though copies may persist briefly in caches, backups, and search engine indexes we do not control.
  • Private notes stay private. A note you mark as visible only to the Stamps DC team is never published. We use it internally to improve event coverage and recommendations, and its rating counts in aggregate figures that do not identify you.
  • You promise it is real. Your note must reflect your own experience at the event, must not name or identify private individuals, and must not contain unlawful, defamatory, or harassing content, or promotion of any product or service.
  • We decide what publishes. Every note is reviewed before it appears. We may decline, remove, or unpublish any note at our discretion, and we have no obligation to publish, retain, or compensate for any submission.

5. Acceptable use

Do not misuse the service: no unauthorized access attempts, no interfering with its operation, no bulk automated collection of its content without written permission, no impersonating another person or an official body, and no submitting content you do not have the right to submit.

6. Our content

The design, editorial writing, curation, and databases on Stamps DC are ours. Factual event details belong to no one, and images and descriptions originating from event hosts remain theirs; our Content Policy covers how to reach us about them. You may link to and quote the site with attribution; you may not republish it wholesale.

7. Disclaimers

The service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. Event information can be wrong or stale despite daily updates. We are not responsible for the events themselves, for host websites, or for anything that happens at an event.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Stamps DC and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to one hundred US dollars or the amount you paid us in the past twelve months, whichever is greater. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

9. Indemnification

If a third party brings a claim against us because of content you submitted or your violation of these terms, you agree to cover the resulting costs, including reasonable legal fees.

10. Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia. Before any formal action, contact us and give us 30 days to resolve the issue informally; most things are fixable with an email. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally belongs in the courts of the District of Columbia.

11. Changes

We may update these terms as the service evolves. For material changes we will post the new effective date here and, where appropriate, note the change to account holders. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
